Computing
CURRICULUM INTENT
The teaching of computing equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. Computing is an essential skill for all children to learn. Through computer science children, will explore how machines work and develop computational thinking. Teaching computing will develop children into problem solvers, sequence checkers, creative thinkers and logical predictors.
Pupils will recognise and avoid online safety risks and learn how to navigate the online world successfully, building digital resilience.
CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
Teaching the National Curriculum
New for the start of the 2022/2023 academic year, we will be using the NCCE (National Centre for Computing Education) ‘Teach Computing’ scheme to ensure a consistent and progressive approach to the teaching and learning of computing across the whole school. This scheme was chosen as it has been created by subject experts and based on the latest pedagogical research. It provides an innovative progression framework where computing content (concepts, knowledge, skills and objectives) has been organised into interconnected networks called learning graphs.
To support the teaching of Computing and to ensure that children are accessing technology safely and responsibly, across school we will be using ‘Project Evolve – Education for a Connected World’ framework. The framework aims to support and broaden the provision of online safety education, so that it is empowering, builds confidence and creates a positive online environment.
